Simons Friday 10th at 8pm ish
Meet the stars !! (and others ……..) , Simons place , South Main street .
Simon Lambert top place in the A2/A3
It all started with a call from Simon about 4 weeks ago. ”Did I know that the Adamstown road was not in great condition and the Frank O Rourke was 4 weeks away” . The Liam Bennett time trial has just started, Patricks day was only just behind us, some were just back of holidays, the three peaks challange was just done and the Gorey three day had just wrapped up for the Wexford Wheelers, and around the bend into April………came the call from Simon.
Simon obviously had this one on his mind from a while back, and there was no flinch or sqwaking cackle from Simon when a combined A2/A3 came on the cards. On with the job on the day, as Ania kept the finishing line under observation for Simon.
We had just had, the Wheelers A4 through the line, when the call came from David Curtis to say that Simon was in a break, on the final leg , from the junction at Harristown. Could Simon hold it for us ?? and bring in another Wheelers result for the A2/ A3 race ?
Anticipation and excitement mounted at the finish line, with the prospect of another fine display from Wexford Wheelers, as the news of Simons position was spread amongst the waiting supporters. Excitement in Billys, Paddys and Georges Eyes !!.
The motor bikes appeared……….the Wheelers Skoda appeared…….. the lead car zoomed in off the road, it was on…… the race to the line…….where was he ? was he holding position. ? …..
A massive woosh of 85 riders accross the line , with just a small break away group yards ahead of the group…. Simon and Michael Doyle and four others had managed to keep their group away from the chasing group for the final leg run in.
Simon came in a briliant finish, second over the line for Wexford Wheelers , in an 85 strong bunch of riders , half of whom were the next grade up from Simon, but Simon pulled it off successfully for Wexford Wheelers .
Well Done….Simon….following on from a 4th position finish in Nenagh a few weeks back, and a tough race in Roundwood the week before.
Well done to all our riders in the A2 A3. Johnny Martin,
An unbelieveable day for Wheelers, A2/A3 result, A4 result , U 16 and U 14 results.
