Another Two Down

Jaysus, Lads, wha’ are yis all at?

Joe Rossiter has joined Dave Allen on the injured list by falling on a greasy spin last Sunday up in ‘Ross. He has a hairline fracture in one of his ribs and internal bruising. He felt a bit left out, everyone falling off and him staying upright, it didn’t seem fair!

Martin Mizgayski had a bad few hours last Sunday with a gastro issue, but is ok by now hopefully. What’s Polish for gastroenteritis (actually, how do you spell it in English?).

Gorey 3 Day entries

Anyone who is interested in taking part in this year’s Gorey 3 Day (23rd – 25th April), please send their name to Patsy by February 10th.

Due to the high level of interest in the event, entries need to be in as soon as possible.

Could anyone who is willing to provide backup to the team, also please forward their name to Patsy on 087 238 4625

Wheelers Poetry Corner

The recent bad weather kept us off our bikes but gave some of our members time to develop other talents.

The first poem submitted is by our esteemed chairman.

My Old Bike

 by David Maguire

*

I do not care what they say

They can say what they like

Because I still love you,

My Old Bike

*

We’re a long time together

Many, many years

Were you the first bike

To be built with gears?

*

You once were black and yellow

Or maybe it was green

Hard to tell with all the dirt

I should really give you a clean

*

On tours, over hills and mountains

Together we have toiled

Am I starting to neglect you?

Yes, your chain should be oiled

*

You mean so much to me

A great part of my life

Sometimes I think I love you more than nearly as much as a little bit as much as

My wife

*

So ignore the begrudgers

Leave them, let them be

Once we’re together we’re happy,

My Old Bike and me

*

*

We look forward to another offering from David soon. It is currently in the works, and entitled My Old MGB.

Dave “Iron man” Allen

Everyone in the Wheelers wish Dave Allen a speedy recovery, after his “encounter” with a stationary car, during Sunday’s training spin.

Dave took a shortcut through the back window and while he sustained a black eye and multiple cuts & bruises and was obviously shaken by the event, he is doing well and there is no sign of serious injury.

Tough man!!

UPDATE:

Seems Dave may have a few cracked ribs + infection in the rib lining. He still plans to make the Lanzarote trip though.

Committed to his training or what!

That’s how the Wheelers roll….

Fancy doing 200km in March? Ah go on!

The Ardattin 200 is one of the early season Audax events organised by Sorrento Cycling Club. It takes place on Sunday, 13th March, starts in Bray and takes in Co. Wicklow and a bit of Co. Carlow. There are no serious climbs.

Three Wheelers have expressed an interest so far; Bobby Newport (obviously, but he’s probably using it as a warm-up for a proper spin later in the day) and two others who, while full of intent, will probably chicken-out closer to the time!

See www.sorrentocyclingclub.com for more information.

Barrow Wheelers Sporting 100

The, now traditional, first local cycling event of the year, the Barrow Wheelers Sporting 100, takes place on Sunday 30th January. Full details on www.barrowwheelers.com.
