Hamper Race - Another successful running - 16/12/07
Photographs now available!!

Yet
another Hamper Race passes and it just keeps getting better. This year
the prizes were the envy of all which were sponsored by Saltees
Seafood, Boggan Motors, The Bike Shop and Flanagans of Castlebridge.
The organisation went like clockwork and the club is most grateful to
the sponsors and to the Wexford Youths facilities provided. One comment
of the day was that "...it was the best finish of any open race in the
country".
Much
appreciation is owed to the mass of stewards who maintained the safety
of the competitors and the lead cars and motorcycle riders who ensured
a clear road.
The
winner of the main race was Vinny Kelly with Vinny Cronin in second and
Sean Kelly third. Further details will be posted later in the week as
will photographs...including the ones that they didn't want you to see.
By the way, did anyone see a black cat anywhere...seemingly there's one gone missing...

More photographs are now available to view on
the Photos tab on your right and going to the Hamper Race 07 section.
Unfortunately the gallery viewer on this web hosting site is poor and
the images suffer due to compression but others will be posted larger
over the holiday period.
If anyone wants a photograph either from this
selection, or if you want any that feature you or your siblings just
drop Alan Rossiter an email at rossitera[at]eircom.net.
Specify who you want the images of (you, or others) and if you have
broadband. They can be compressed for web viewing or uncompressed for
printing so please specify that too.
Hamper Race - Rumour 15/12/07
Rumour
has it that Martin is in serious training at the moment - he's even
taken some time off! And to compliment his new regime he's bought a new
bike that he hopes to ride in the Hamper Race as training for the next
year. All he wants is two volunteers to fill the seats. Anyone, anyone?
Beuller...anyone?

Weekly People Column by PRO Brendan Ennis.
Cycling
legend Sean Kelly will be among a high class field competing in Wexford
next Sunday as Wexford Wheelers host their third annual hamper race on
the Kitestown circuit. Last year’s race was won by current professional
Ciaran Power.
The race is sponsor is Saltees Fish and is also
generously supported by The Bike Shop, Selskar; Boggans, Newtown Road,
and Flanagan’s of Castlebridge.
While the circuit is the same as
previous years, the race will be based in the Wexford Youths soccer
complex and the start/finish will be with those grounds. Wheelers are
grateful to Seanie O’Shea and Mick Wallace for making their wonderful
facility available to them.
There will be races for adults,
underage and a childrens race for under 12s (weather permitting). The
childrens race will be open to children of Wheelers members and to
children of entrants in the adult race. There is great interest in the
childrens’ race and it is reported that some cycling Daddies have been
seen coaching their youngsters in preparation!
Helmets must be
worn for ALL races. Sign on for underage will be from 10.00 to 10.15
with the race commencing at 10.30 sharp. Adult race sign on will be
from 10.15 to 10.45 with the race commencing at 11.30. The childrens
race will take place immediately after the main race.
Sunday Tour - 11/12/07
Just a couple of points to note from this weeks tour!
Martin
Gill wants to set up a nudist section of the club. With the -40
conditions on Sunday Martin turned up wearing not much better than a
loin cloth. Our sources on the ground ‘Rick Murke’ who we can’t name
for legal reasons heard Martin saying “Sure it’s not that cold, I’d
come naked if it was legal”
If you are an original 90’s man -
the caring, sensitive, loving type like Ian Doyle, then don’t cycle
beside our chairman as he will only insult you for half the tour. In
fact don’t ride behind him either as he has a knack for getting you
destroyed!
Small fact learned on the tour - bar men can walk up to 9 miles a day!!!!!
Hamper Race 2008 - Official Launch - 7/12/07
Wexford Wheelers will launch this years hamper race in the Riverbank House Hotel at 7.30 pm next Friday, 7th December.
This
years race will be on 16th December and Sean Kelly is expected to be
among the top class entry. We hope also to have last years winner,
current professional, Ciaran Power, taking part.
All are welcome to attend.

News - 20/11/07
Weekly People Column by PRO Brendan Ennis.
While
November and December could be considered out of season for road
cycling, Wexford Wheelers Sunday tours are proving popular with 32
cyclists taking part in a recent spin and 18 turning up last Sunday
despite the cold, wet conditions.
The club welcomes newcomers
Simon Lambert and also Phil Lynch who is riding with the club in
preparation for a charity cycle she is undertaking in France in March.
The cycle will entail cycling from Northern France to Lourdes, approx
600 miles, in seven days. Wheeler David Maguire will also be taking
part in the event which will fundraise for a childrens charity.
As
well as Sunday tours, Wexford Wheelers will be involved in two major
local cycling events in December. On the 16th the club will host the
third annual hamper race on the Kitestown cicuit. It is expected that,
as in previous years, big names in Irish cycling will be taking part.
On
St. Stephens Day club will be taking part in a locally based fun cycle
to raise funds for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland. This
will be a strictly
non-competitive event with distances to suit
everyone. It should provide an opportunity for all to shake off the
Christmas excesses. Further details on the above will issue shortly.

Brendan Found - 13/11/07
Dear Wheelers,
Yes I am still around. It is nice to be missed! Another great turnout.
I
was at the Bullring on Sunday but was late and the tour had left. I
went for a spin on my own, got rained on, cut it short as my feet were
wet and cold. How I needed the company of my clubmates to raise my
spirits.
I'll be back.
Brendan
Sunday Tour - 12/11/07
Yet
another good turnout on Sunday with over 30 cyclists in the Bullring
despite the threatening bad weather. It was great to see a lot of new
faces attending although some of our regulars are missing in action!
Brendan are you out there?
There were two tours as normal. A
welcome return for our tour leader John McCormick who led the touring
section on his usual scenic and well organised tour. Our racing section
tour leader Mick Burke (who travels more miles than Bus Eireann) led
the training tour to the Midlands somewhere! Not great weather but a
good day on the bike!
Welcome New Member - 12/11/07
Welcome
to Sam Mealy who joined us a few weeks ago. Sam at only 16 already has
a successful cross country running career behind him, which explains
why he is already on the training tour killing most of us after only 3
weeks of cycling! Sam turns junior next year and hopefully for the club
will take up racing.
There are a number of new memebers that we
would like to welcome on the web site! We apologise as we just haven't
had a chance to have a chat yet! Watch this space!
Wednesday Night Update - 9/11/07
Update from our roving reporter Patrick!

for him fill you in on more news soon thanks."
Prodigal Son Returns - 4/11/07
Welcome back to the club Eoin
O'Shea after a 12 year absence. Eoin was a strong cyclist in his day
(hey, we are not saying that you are over the hill, just that you were
good at going up them!). Eoin is only back on the bike since since July
but is showing great form. He has promised to ride the hamper race in
December.........no pressure!!!!!

ED page added - 30/07/07
10,000 Visitors - 6/08/07
In only one year the web site has passed the 10,000 hit mark! This really is a fantastic achievement for a web site that does not feature any naked people!
It really shows the growing level of support and interest in our cycling club which has grown dramatically in the last 12 months.
A big thanks to Alan Rossiter who set-up the site and to those who spend their own time maintaining and updating it. A special thanks to you the readers for your support and contributions over the last year! Keep it coming and we look forward to hitting the 100K mark!!!
Why? So you can get things you want!
3rd in Eddie Tobin Memorial Road Race - 29/07/07
Congratulations to Conchubhar Ó Crualaoich who claimed an excellent 3rd place on the very difficult Monageer circuit today. With a starting field of over 70 riders, this is yet again a fantastic result from the man who is still only in his first serious competitive year of racing. We will just add this with his third place in the Leinster Championships, sixth in the national Championships and a number of seconds and thirds in the SERC league and other races this season.
Well done Conchubhar! Take a break man. Have a kit kat!
Sean Kelly Tour - 29/07/07
Closing date for entries is this Friday 3rd of August. So if you plan on riding it you need to part with the cash this week!
First Sale Made - 29/07/07
The For Sale page actually sold something!!! Can you believe it? The Junior Orbea racing bike is gone to a new home. Encouraged by this revelation we now plan on growing the site into a multimillion Euro business. Sorry John C we forgot to mention the 95% commission!
Tour of Loch Gorman Pictures - 29/07/07
The pictures of you looking very miserable on this years tour are on the way! I have been promised by our chairman that he will hand them over this week!
Bray Wheeler Guest - 29/07/07
We would like to welcome Tom a Bray wheeler who joined us on the tour today. Tom has moved to Wexford for the short term at least as he starts a new job as a Physiotherapist in St John's hospital in Enniscorthy tomorrow. So if you have any problems Tom is the man!
Good luck Tom with the new job and we hope to see you on the tour again!
Abandoned Flock - 29/07/07
Lost, scared and alone aptly describes the feelings of the riders on this Sundays tour! Tour leader Mick Burke where were you? Where was your loving security blanket when we needed it most? Every rider needs that security, that warm and safe knowledge that he will make it home. The knowledge that he won’t be lost, alone and passing through villages with nothing but tumble weed.
Today was a black day as we lost many riders along the route. As we speak some are still trying to find their way home!
Come back, your sheep need you!!!
Mount Lenister - 22/07/07
This Sunday Mick Burke who is our new tour leader (and an excellent tour leader at that I must say) is dragging us up Mount Lenister! So if you are not a big girls handbag then this is the spin for you! Bring loads of food, your doctor and what ever pain medication you can get your hands on as it's a tough enough day out!
Sean Kelly Tour - 16/07/07
On 19 August, the Sean Kelly Tour will take place in Co. Waterford. This will be a fundraiser for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland. There will be three distances, 45, 100 and 160 kms. All members of Wexford Wheelers are encouraged to take part. Sean Kelly has been a good firend and supporter of our club, most recently in his participation in our annual Christmas hamper race.
Further information on the event is available on www.theseankellytour.com.
Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival Race - 16/07/07
Last Friday evening saw cycle racing return to Kilmore Quay for the first time in nearly two decades when the Kilmore Seafood Festival Committee and Wexford Wheelers Cycling Club hosted a race over 6 laps of a 4.3 mile circuit. The race was won by Declan Kinch (Murphy & Gunn) with Murt Doyle (Slaney Cycling Club) second, third place went to Frank Dunne (SCC) and Martin Gill (Wexford Wheelers) was fourth.
Conchubhar O Crualaoich (WW) was the first Vet., Shane Kelly (SCC) was first Junior and underage prizes went to Darragh O'Flaherty and Jamie Lambert (both WW).
Brendan Ennis and Leonie Buggy were also presented with a prize. Alas, it was nothing to do with his placing in the race but to mark their recent marriage. Apparently, Brendan promised Leonie that following their marriage he would take her to a cycle race in July. While the beautiful village of Kilmore Quay certainly has its virtues, Leonie may have been expecting to be taken to France!
The race was generously sponsored by Saltees Seafoods and Wright's of Howth. The organisers are also grateful to the marshalls and to the good people Stella Maris centre in Kilmore Quay for the hospitality and post race refreshments.
Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival Race - 9/07/07
There is a race organised for Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival on Friday 13th (Yes, we know!). Sign on is at 7pm in the Stella Maris Hall (half way down the hill into Kilmore Village) and the race will be over 6 laps of a 4 mile circuit starting at 7.30. Veterans among us will remember this 4 mile circuit from the last race run in Kimore Quay. How long ago...?? Well, Martin Early won a stage of the Tour De France on the same day. Declan Lonergan was the runaway winner of this race...it's unlikely he'll make another appearance! This is open to Juniors, 2nd & 3rd Cats as well as Vets.
Wedding Bells - 9/07/07
Belated congratulations are due from all club members to Mr & Mrs Brendan Ennis. Brendan is known for his secretive training but we didn't think he'd keep this one onder wraps so well. Best of luck to you both. Time to invest in a tandem, I presume?

Congrats to Conchubhar Ó Crualaoich who came in an excellent 6th place in difficult weather conditions in the National Vets Championship, 2007 held over a 4 lap circuit in Carrig-on-Suir. This is his first serious competitive year and this combined with his third place in the Leinster Championships surely puts him up with the best as far as results are concerned for many a year in the club. Well done from us all.
Martin will be taking part in the elite mens race today in Waterford and we wish him well.

Great weekend for Wexford cycling!
